On Sunday, July 13, 2015, from 6pm to 9pm, the law library will host a reception for the academic section of the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL). During this event, hundreds of law librarians are expected to visit campus and tour the law library. Your understanding of the situation is appreciated. The Blume Library, which is open until 8pm on July 13, is an alternative place for study if you prefer. Thank you for your patience.

A project to digitize copies of the law school's student newspapers from the 1950s to 1970s is nearing completion. SBA newspapers from the School of Law's past can be viewed in the Portal to Texas History.

Finals are here! The law library has resources to help you through this time:

1. There is an exam time Stress-Free Zone near the circulation desk on the first floor of the law library. We have board games and punching bags to help release the stress of finals.
2. The law library maintains an Exam Bank at http://lawlib.stmarytx.edu/exambank.html , where you can find old exams given at St. Mary's. You can use the buttons on each column to sort by date, professor, or course.
3. The law library has additional exams for Professors Johnson, Liu, and Ariens available in binders at the front desk.  These are the multiple choice question binders.

The law library will have reduced hours for Good Friday and Easter Weekend:

• Friday, April 18:  8am - 5pm
• Saturday, April 19:  9am - 6pm
• Sunday, April 20:  CLOSED

The law library is having a drawing to win a reserved, fees paid study carrel for August 2014. To enter the drawing, participate in a National Library Week activity this week, and you will be entered in a drawing to win a grand prize of a study carrel with all fees paid. 

• Starting Monday, April 14, come to the library desk, and pick up a movie trivia quiz.  Return the completed quiz by Thursday at 5pm, and you are entered in the drawing.

• Sign up for a Rare Book Room tour.  The tours last 15-20 minutes, and take place Wednesday, April 16 at 10am, 10:30am, 11am, 11:30am, 2:30pm, 3pm, 3:30pm, 4:00pm, and 4:30pm.  The Rare Book room features a dramatic lawyerly look with a huge stately green granite top table, and, of course, rare books a plenty.  Go on a tour and you are entered in the drawing.  Tour sign up sheets are at the front desk of the law library, or you can email Fang Wang (fwang@stmarytx.edu) to sign up for a tour.

Runners up may win movie tickets or thumb drives.

* This is not the only way to get a carrel.  Carrels are guaranteed for students on the St. Mary's Law Journal or The Scholar, and recent graduates studying for the bar.  The small number of additional carrels are assigned in August in a separate process.

The annual homecoming Oyster Bake will be held Friday and Saturday, April 11-12, 2014. Due to the campus-wide celebration, the law library will have reduced hours this weekend:

• Friday, April 11:  7am - 1pm
• Saturday, April 12:  CLOSED
• Sunday, April 13:  10am - 12 midnight

First and second year law students: The Staff Writer Application Deadline for The Scholar is FRIDAY, April 4, 2014 MONDAY, April 7, 2014. Submit your application on TWEN by 5:00 p.m. In order to make a submission on TWEN add the course titled: “Application for Volume 17: The Scholar: St. Mary's Law Review on Race and Social Justice 2014-2015 (Full year 2014-2015) - English, Fahim, Torok.”

Once you've registered Bloomberg Law, you can use it to find federal dockets. Anything in PACER is also available in Bloomberg Law. Here's a quick video showing how to use federal dockets in Bloomberg:

Bloomberg Law is a comprehensive research tool, similar to Lexis and Westlaw.  You can use Bloomberg Law to do paid work, you can use it over the summer, and you can use Bloomberg Law for 6 months after you graduate.

Here’s how to register a Bloomberg Law account:

1. Go to http://bloomberglaw.com/activate .
2. Activation Code:  Leave this blank.  You do not need an activation code.
3. Fill out the required information.  You must use your St. Mary’s email address ending in stmarytx.edu or @mail.stmarytx.edu .
   (For what law school you attend, select “St. Mary’s University School of Law” from the drop down menu.)
4. Click “Submit”.
5. Check your email account for the confirmation email from Bloomberg.  Click the link in that email.  If you do not receive a user account within 3 days, then contact the law library for assistance.
